May 7, 2024Laureates Academy Sweeps Top Spots in National Math Competitions!
Laureates Academy celebrates the outstanding achievements of its mathematics program, with student teams securing top rankings in prestigious national competitions.
The Grade 10 Math Team, comprised of Arya, Sophia, and Tivaun, achieved a perfect score of 450 in the 2024 University of Waterloo’s Cayley Contest. This remarkable accomplishment secured them the top position in Canada, solidifying Laureates Academy’s reputation as a national leader in mathematics education.
Further demonstrating the program’s strength, the Grade 9 Pascal Contest team, consisting of Radin, Nick, and Luke, secured an impressive 9th place finish nationally. Additionally, the Grade 11 team, composed of Erfan, Yass, and Shahin, achieved a commendable 8th place ranking amongst all Canadian schools.
Individual student performances were equally impressive. Four participants – Sophia, Arya, Yass, and Tivaun – attained the maximum score of 150 in their respective contests. Yass, Erfan, and Shahin, from the Grade 11 team, were recognized for their outstanding performance and invited to attend the exclusive University of Waterloo Summer School program. Arya received a separate invitation to another prestigious summer program at the University of Ottawa. Notably, Sophia and Tivaun, the remaining perfect scorers, were not invited due to being in Grades 8 and 9, respectively.
These selective summer schools cater to the most talented students in mathematics and computer science. They offer participants valuable opportunities to delve into advanced topics, network with other intellectually gifted students from across Canada, and interact with renowned university professors and scholars, further enriching their academic experience.
Laureates Academy’s mathematics program distinguishes itself by going beyond the traditional curriculum. The program emphasizes enrichment, focusing on deepening understanding within mathematical concepts, rather than simply advancing through content at a faster pace. This approach has demonstrably led to outstanding student success in national mathematics competitions.
