Structural Design & Construction

This inspiring course teaches students to build structures with a variety of materials. The construction activities build and reinforce STEM skills in geometry, art, math, and science towards meeting the ever increasing need of creative structural design in modern societies. Students will learn the fundamentals of statics, principles of beams, pillars and columns, construction material, connecting pieces, foundations, stability design, vibration design, modular design, frames, trusses and moving structures. This course uses a variety of material and media including Lego pieces, paper, wood beams, metal beams, actual construction material and other creative materials. Structural design and construction course will enable students to design and build many structures including houses, high rises, bridges and roads.

The course is offered from grade 4 to grade 8. The knowledge and skills learned will increase in each grade and so does the complexity of structures built.
